Otto Niemeyer-Holstein: In the Garden II

Otto Niemeyer-Holstein created a particular liveliness from the immediate view. In the aquarelle Garden II blue, purple and green tones, brought onto paper in nervous handwriting, create a rhythmic image that suggests the splendour and opulence of flowers in bloom. Different ways of painting and a differentiated approach to stroke-making express the need for a diversity of voices and ambiguity.

From 1933 until his death in 1984, Otto Niemeyer-Holstein lived and worked in an old railway car on the island of Rügen. The workshop shrouded in legends formed part of a unique garden. Just like the composition of a work of art, the artist planted trees and arranged flowers according to colour and shape. In his artistic works Niemeyer-Holstein captured the attractions of nature in all of its guises with a special appreciation and consideration.
