The main “moral” problem was illegitimate births. Around one third of all new-born children in manorial villages were illegitimate. The cause lay in the political system under which landlords had the right to grant marriage licences for their officials and the manorial lords for their subjects. These licences were not granted if there was a lack of living space or no work available.

Workers, craftsmen and the educated middle-class got together in sports, singing or workers’ educational associations.

The invalidity and pensions' insurance society is founded 1890 in Stettin. Work on Sundays is outlawed in 1891. Workers, craftsmen and the educated middle-class got together in sports, singing or workers’ educational associations.

Industrial expansion leads to the emergence of a proletariat, a new middle class with a penchant for petty bourgeois aspirations. Internal migration leads to a 20% decline in the rural population.
