Reading and writing were primarily intended for using the Holy Scriptures. Teachers were therefore to focus on reading in particular. “As we must learn the teachings from the same books, it is very important that there are many people who can read. Those wanting to teach others must have a decent amount of teaching beforehand and must know where and how all articles in divine scriptures are based on each other and explained. And so that we can be sure that we understand divine scriptures there must be many people who understand the language of the prophets and Apostles.”
