The films are delivered in open reels. Before the showing, they need to be wound on to cassettes and then cranked back to their starting position. Projectionists do have motorised machines to rewind the films, but prefer to do so by hand as the machine is slower. The cogwheel transmission means that the device can reach very high speeds when attached to a table. The sound and light case IKK35 by Zeiss is used for this kind of mobile cinema in holiday resorts. The number stands for the film width in millimetres.

"Organisation of meaningful holiday pass times is of immanent importance to the satisfaction of socialist needs." The FDGB holiday cooperative takes this mission statement as a basis for providing an extensive sports and culture programme. The trades unions foot the bill. Spacious cultural facilities are installed in the holiday homes on Hiddensee, and each day there are talks or dances. Moreover, FDGB organises film showings at different locations around the island on five days a week. The first marquee cinema is erected on Norderende in Vitte.
